James River Hospice began in the Richmond, VA area about 20 years ago. Because of the utmost care and companionship provided by James River Hospice's staff and volunteers, we now are able to meet the needs of our patients' and their families in Farmville, VA and surrounding areas. To that end, James River Hospice is looking for Volunteers to visit our patients in the Farmville area or work in our Farmville office.
Volunteers do not perform any type of personal care (feeding, bathing, etc.) They play games with the patient they are assigned to, take the patient outside for fresh air (weather permitting), watch classic tv shows or simply enjoying quiet time together holding hands.
Volunteers who visit patients will do so a minimum of three times a month for an hour or more if the patient feels up to it. Volunteers who work in the office will also volunteer a minimum of three times a month. Volunteers document their visits or office time and give their visit notes to the Volunteer Coordinator within 48 hours of the last contact with the patient or last time in the office. James River Hospice provides expert training for all of our volunteers. We ask that when you visit with your patient that you "bring the sunshine" with you.
