    Descripción

CompassPoint is entering a new era, actively evolving our practice and programs to meet the needs of these tumultuous and transformative times in the fight for liberation. We have recently shifted into a smaller team of 4-5 full-time staff members and 6-8 part-time staff members. This is an opportunity to join our small team at the beginning of our next chapter. In the years ahead, we will deepen our commitment to pro-Black capacity-building and movement operations, with a focus on BIPOC leaders.

    WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

In this role, you will be part of a small, interconnected team co-creating this new chapter. We’re looking for someone who brings both the creative and practical elements of activating a refreshed brand. You’ll bring a commitment to racial justice and experience in communications and/or marketing. Ideally, you are drawn to working with a small team to bring a vision to life and have some understanding of the capacity-building and leadership development field that supports progressive nonprofits and movement organizations.

    Quick facts:

    • Annual salary of $100,000 (more information on total compensation below).
    • This job is an exempt, full-time position, with a preference for candidates based in the Bay Area, California. All candidates must reside within the United States.
    • We primarily work remotely and have no shared physical office. This position will work mostly remotely, although some in-person time will be required for internal team-building opportunities, as well as possible participation in program spaces.
    • The expected start date for this position is early-mid September 2026.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

This section describes the skills and experience that are most important to this position. We realize not everyone will be equally strong in all of these areas. We also know you can bring strengths and talents beyond what we’ve listed! If you have a vision and excitement for this role and how you can contribute to our organization, we welcome your application.

WHAT THIS JOB LOOKS LIKE IN ACTION

    • Collaborating with a small staff team and an external communications firm to reinvigorate CompassPoint’s visual identity and field presence, in alignment with a refreshed strategic direction focused on pro-Black movement operations.
    • Bringing a creative eye and sense of experimentation to help breathe life into our organizational identity, creating videos, graphics, and written pieces that express who we are and why we do this work.
    • Building, maintaining, and improving the systems and processes that help our communications and marketing work flow seamlessly.

    WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT

    • Experience with holding the strategic, creative, and practical elements of communications and marketing work effectively.
    • An ability to engage collaboratively with a team, give and receive feedback, while holding leadership and decision-making authority within your area of responsibility.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE THAT WILL MAKE THIS A GREAT FIT

    • At least 2-5 years of experience creating visual and written content for social justice organizations and/or movements.
    • A strong and creative storyteller with a passion for crafting a shared vision of an alternative future, grounded in Pro-Black principles and values.
    • Experience using social media effectively for marketing and organizational identity-building (brand).
    • Agile, creative, and resourceful approaches to handling ambiguity, challenge, or change.
    • Highly motivated self-starter with strong project management skills and the ability to focus on details, timeline, and quality outcomes.
    • Demonstrated experience creating effective and transparent comms systems.
    • Comfort using a variety of software platforms and the ability to learn new tech
    • Familiarity with leadership development and capacity-building work is a plus.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is full-time and exempt. The starting salary is $100,000 annually. Because we know that the practice of salary negotiation can contribute to pay inequities, this starting salary is non-negotiable. Our compensation structure—as well as our approach to future compensation adjustments—is transparent to all practice members. We will share more about our approach to compensation with final candidates.

CompassPoint offers a benefits package to full-time team members that includes:

    • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plans for employees and eligible dependents.
    • 36-hour work week and flexible work schedules. Team members need to have regular weekday availability between the core working hours of 10 am-4 pm PT.
    • Three weeks of collective time off (first week of July and last two weeks of December) and eight additional paid holidays throughout the year.
    • Three weeks of employee-directed paid time off per year, increasing to five weeks over time.
    • 16 hours of “Life-Happens” leave annually (for needs such as menstrual leave, volunteer or activism hours, cultural holidays, school closures, and other life events) that can be used as additional PTO.
    • Life / AD&D and Long-Term Disability Insurance.
    • Flexible spending accounts for medical expenses and childcare.
    • Funds for professional development opportunities.
    • Funds for home office workstation equipment and furniture.

CompassPoint is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants and does not discriminate based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, marital status, veteran status, pregnancy, parental status, genetic information or characteristics (or those of a family member) or any other basis prohibited by applicable law.

We value a strong, diverse team of folks whose lived experience informs their relationship to social justice work and our collective liberation. Women, trans-and gender-nonconforming folks, queer people, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. We acknowledge this list is incomplete and encourage you to apply if your lived experience informs your desire to be a part of social justice work.
