    Salary: $62,00-$85,000

    Position Summary

    The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) is seeking an Associate to manage and develop GIFCT’s various trust and safety solutions.

    This role is crafted for an individual with an interdisciplinary interest in analyzing online harms and technical workflows. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, team player, systematic thinker, and interested in developing concrete solutions to problems. This candidate should also possess foundational knowledge of data analysis with a desire to develop new skills. Additionally, a strong candidate will possess a demonstrated interest in the intersections of technology and terrorism/violent extremism.

    Responsibilities:

    • Product Management: Cross-functional collaboration to design and maintain trust and safety solutions to support GIFCT and its members deliver on the mission. This includes supporting management of GIFCT’s tolls such as GIFCT’s Hash Sharing Database
    • Process Management: Standardize, refine, and deconflict workflows with cross-functional partners to ensure seamless execution of key functions.
    • Technical Proficiency & Solution Support: Apply foundational skills (SQL, Python, and hashing concepts) to support the development and onboarding of GIFCT’s Trust and Safety Solutions.
    • User Research: Work to analyze member needs, and steer GIFCT solutions toward meeting those needs.
    • Policy Development: Work with the Director of Trust and Safety Solutions to draft and refine policy documentation for GIFCT solutions, in consultation with other team members as needed.
    • Technical Solution Management: Work both independently and collaboratively to achieve project goals by translating technical and logistical challenges into actionable plans for implementation.
    • Research and analysis: Conduct research on how terrorist and violent extremist actors exploit digital platforms, and apply outcomes toward development of new trust and safety solutions.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;
    • Interest in the intersection of terrorism/violent extremism and technology;
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when translating complex or technical topics to partners;
    • Familiarity with key concepts related to GIFCT’s Trust and Safety Solutions such as hash sharing and hash functions;
    • Basic proficiency in Python and SQL;
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage logistics of technical workflows even if not a direct implementer;
    • Comfortable working with external technical partners;
    • Curiosity to learn new technologies in a fast changing environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Subject matter knowledge related to terrorism and violent extremism;
    • Experience working directly with Python or SQL in a professional or academic environment;
    • Familiarity with GIFCT’s Hash Sharing Database or similar solutions;
    • Understanding of trust and safety workflows within technology companies including moderation, investigations, product policy, etc;
    • Proven experience improving workflows in a professional or academic environment.
    • Experience writing formal documentation, such as internal policy, SOPs, or cross-functional workflow analysis.
