    Family Violence Law Center

    Lead Case Management Specialist

Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) helps diverse communities in Alameda County heal from domestic violence and sexual assault, advocating for justice and healthy relationships. We provide survivor-centered legal and crisis intervention services, offer prevention education for youth and other community members, and engage in policy work to create systemic change.

OVERVIEW: FVLC receives funding from the federal Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, to lead the Oakland site of the Networks Project, a collaborative project to address issues experienced by people who are impacted by both community and domestic violence. The Lead Case Management Specialist will work in close collaboration with FVLC’s community partner, Youth Alive! to provide shared case management and create and lead a local steering committee to help guide the project.

FVLC’s case managers provide mobile case management and other supportive services designed to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency and reaching their goals. Many survivors live at the intersection of multiple forms of oppression and therefore our advocacy considers how issues like racism and poverty influence survivors’ likelihood of success. The Lead Case Management Specialist is supervised by the Family Violence Intervention Unit (FVIU) Manager.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead Collaborative Efforts to Address the Intersections of Community and Domestic Violence

You will work in close collaboration with partner agency Youth ALIVE!, and with the support of the National Learning Collaborative, to provide shared case management services for people experiencing both community and domestic violence. Accomplishing these goals will include, but is not limited to:

    1. Coordinating regularly with Youth ALIVE! to provide empowerment-based case management
    2. Lead the creation and implementation of a monthly steering committee with local stakeholders to discuss project progress, case studies, recommendations, and project goals
    3. In partnership with the FVIU Manager, meet regularly with the Networks Project Manager and Research Triangle Institute to discuss project progress and evaluation
    4. Participate in the Networks Project’s National Learning Collaborative quarterly meetings
    5. Provide and participate in cross-trainings as needed
    6. In partnership with the FVIU Manager, prepare case studies and other information as needed for sharing with partners and grant reporting

    Empowerment-Based Case Management

You will maintain a caseload of 10-15 survivors, who meet criteria for longer case management services. Case Management includes, but is not limited to:

    1. Assessing and intaking potential case management clients
    2. Meeting regularly with clients to empower them towards setting and achieving their goals
    3. Being flexible, creative, and empowerment based in providing client-centered services through mobile support.
    4. Being highly organized in managing client assistance funds as available through other funding sources for needs that serve as barriers to stability and safety.
    5. Facilitating relationships with other community agencies to support clients’ goals.
    6. Conducting outreach with other community agencies to train others about our program and build partnerships
    7. Participating in regular case review team meetings and contributing to collective decisions about enrollment, case plans, and termination of the case management relationship.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Answer crisis line calls, make supportive follow-up calls to survivors listed on domestic violence police reports, and assist walk-in clients who drop into the office, as needed
    • Attend and participate in regular case conferences with supervisor and/or FVIU team.
    • Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
    • Maintain data on client contacts, case information, program assessment and officer training needs.
    • Contribute to the growth and development of the FVIU team and FVLC, through participating in data collection aimed at better understanding client needs and improving the program in response to those needs.

This position is not limited to the duties described above. Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of FVLC.

    Minimum Responsibilities

      • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or a related field OR at least two years of related experience providing case management or client advocacy services.
      • At least two years of previous experience with case management, crisis intervention, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault-related services.
      • Basic understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.

      • Ability to work independently and with a team.
      • Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle.
      • Criminal background check (provided upon hire).
      • CA 40 Hour Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (can be provided upon hire).
