    Position: Communications Coordinator

    Application Deadline: Applications will be processed on a rolling basis – we review applications as we receive them.     Employment Status: Full-time, fixed-term employee position (12 months, with possibility of extension or conversion to permanent depending on organizational needs and funding)

    Location: Remote, based between Eastern Time (ET) and Central European Time (CET). Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the country where they are based. Please note that TFS is currently unable to sponsor visas.

    Starting Date: As soon as possible after offer, estimated start in August 2026

    Compensation: The Future Society (TFS) uses a transparent, formula-based compensation framework that takes into account role level and geographic location to promote fairness, consistency, and equity across our global team. Compensation is not negotiated on an individual basis. The compensation for this role for candidates based outside the U.S. is between $58,400 and $75,300. For U.S.-based candidates, the compensation is between $74,400 and $92,100. (with further adjustments for specific locations with a higher cost of living).

    Benefits: For a U.S.-based hire, benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer match at three percent of salary, 30 days of annual leave (including floating public holidays), and 10 days of sick leave each year. For non-U.S. employees, we match the U.S. standard as closely as possible or use local mandatory levels, whichever is highest.

    Position Summary:

    Communications is an important part of The Future Society’s mission to align AI through better governance. By making complex policy ideas accessible and amplifying the work of our experts and partners, we help inform public debate and support better AI governance outcomes.

    The Future Society (TFS) is looking for an organized and proactive Communications Coordinator to support and help grow our communication function, ensuring that our research, policy engagement, fundraising, and organizational initiatives are communicated clearly, consistently, and effectively across digital and external channels.

    The role will initially report to the Operations Manager, Eloise Dunn, while working closely with the COO, policy teams, and senior leadership. This hire will play a key role in amplifying the important AI governance work we do. The successful candidate will be a skilled, hands-on communicator who is passionate about TFS’s mission of aligning AI through better governance, and they will be proactive, autonomous, and versatile.

    While this is a fixed-term position for now, this is an exciting opportunity to join TFS at a pivotal moment as we invest in and expand our communications function. Over the next 12 months, we aim to strengthen how we communicate our research, policy engagement, events, and organizational impact to a growing international audience. This role will play an important part in building the systems, processes, and outputs that support that growth, with opportunities for the position and the wider communications function to evolve over time.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Draft, format, and publish blog posts, reports, and other publications on the TFS website (WordPress) in collaboration with AI Governance teams.
    • Own communications workflows for publications and campaigns, coordinating timelines across researchers, leadership, and external partners.
    • Format reports, slide decks, and other documents using existing TFS templates and brand guidelines, primarily using Canva.
    • Plan, create, and publish social media content using the content calendar system, ensuring posts accurately reflect the content of publications and are tailored to each platform.
    • Support communications for major TFS convenings, including The Athens Roundtable and other high-profile events, conferences, and public appearances by TFS staff.
    • Provide logistical and communications support for our annual flagship event The Athens Roundtable, such as speaker communications, digital assets, event promotion and post-event publishing
    • Manage the newsletter production cycle: content aggregation, formatting, scheduling and distribution
    • Manage website content and coordinate with external developers to maintain and improve TFS’s digital presence.
    • Monitor communications metrics (social media engagement, newsletter open rates, website traffic), and produce regular performance reports and recommend improvements based on communications data.
    • Support the production and assembly of organizational fundraising and development communications, including one-pagers, donor briefing packs, impact reports and narratives, grant collateral, annual report content and stewardship materials) under the direction of the COO.
    • Support internal communications around major organizational announcements.
    • Explore and responsibly use AI-enabled communications tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

    Requirements:

    • 2+ years of experience in communications, editorial, or digital publishing.
    • Commitment to TFS’s mission of aligning AI through better governance. Previous experience working in AI governance is not required for this role, but a genuine interest in AI governance, AI safety, or technology policy is important. You do not need a technical background, but you must be able to read and understand policy-oriented material on these topics in order to write accurate summaries and social media content.
    • Self-directed and reliable, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines independently.
    • Detail-oriented, diligent, and tenacious, consistently completing tasks to a high standard.
    • Excellent written English, including the ability to write clearly and concisely for different formats (social media, newsletters, website) and to proofread and edit others’ work.
    • Experience working with social media platforms (LinkedIn and X/Twitter) in a professional context.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in CMS platforms, email marketing tools. and social media management.

    Preferred

    • Proficiency with WordPress, Mailchimp, and Canva
    • Familiarity working with and interpreting analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, social media analytics)
    • Experience in a small company or organization.
    • Experience operating in a global and/or remote-first work environment. Familiarity working in both the U.S. and Europe is helpful.
    • Experience in a non-profit, think tank, policy, or research organization, especially in the AI Governance field.
    • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally for work, including for team retreats
