    NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time science communicator to provide scientific and technical expertise in advising, writing and publishing communications products for the Long Island Sound Partnership (LIS Partnership).

    What You Will Do

    As a science communicator for NEIWPCC, your work will be heavily geared towards implementing the LIS Partnership Communications, Outreach, and Engagement (COE) Strategic Plan and supporting integration of the newly revised LIS Partnership Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) with a specific focus on the Informed and Engaged Public goal. You will:

    • Write articles and feature projects on LIS Partnership’s online communications channels, develop website content and perform website updates, support the development of public engagement content, draft and manage social media content, assist with photography and videography initiatives, and provide scientific, technical, and programmatic communications support on various initiatives, including a new State of the Sound report.
    • Participate in occasional site visits, programmatic meetings, conferences, and summits within the LIS Watershed.
    • Collaborate with other communications and outreach team members and help to shape future communications work for the LIS Partnership program.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The successful candidate will be a skilled writer who is passionate about communicating how science and environmental management can help sustain and protect urban waterways from emerging threats. The ideal candidate will:

    • Have a master’s degree in marine environmental science or policy, environmental engineering, biology, English, journalism, communications, media studies, or related field.
    • Have at least five years of professional experience in science communications with technical experience in website and print publication design and social media platform tools.
    • Be reliable, have a strong attention to detail, and able to effectively establish working relationships with scientists, environmental managers, and stakeholders.
    • Have a proven ability to construct scientifically valid and informative communications materials, the ability to shoot and edit photos and videos, and experience with WordPress, Adobe InDesign, and various social media platforms is desired.

    Candidates with alternative qualifications or who have taken a less traditional career path may be considered if an aptitude for success and a strong willingness to learn is clearly apparent.

    Logistics

    This full-time position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in Lowell, MA. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting and will require regular travel within the LIS Watershed, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation is required. After six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting work schedule, subject to approval and program needs.

    The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. NEIWPCC offers an outstanding comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees:
