OVERVIEW
Smart from the Start is a community-based initiative dedicated to family support, community engagement, and school readiness in underserved communities. Our Early Childhood Education Program Facilitator works directly in Washington, DC’s Ward 8 neighborhoods to lead daily early childhood education programming, drive community outreach, and engage local families.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily ECE Facilitation & Family Intakes
- Program Facilitation: Implement and lead daily, engaging early childhood education (ECE) programming tailored to young children's developmental needs.
- Enrollment Intakes: Conduct initial intakes for new families, gather documentation, establish rapport, and introduce programmatic services.
- Developmental Screenings: Assist with administering and logging Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ-3 and ASQ: SE) to track child development.
- Community Outreach & Recruitment
- Neighborhood Outreach: Lead daily and weekly grassroots outreach efforts in Ward 8 to connect directly with residents and families.
- Family Engagement: Execute recruitment and retention strategies to sustain steady enrollment and consistent participation in program activities.
- Advocacy Support & Administration
- Advocacy & Crisis Escalation: Support our Program Coordinator with family advocacy, identifying acute family crises (housing, food, safety) and making immediate internal warm handoffs for case management.
- Data Tracking & Operations: Maintain accurate weekly data entries (attendance, intakes, screening logs) to support program evaluation; manage site supplies, inventory, and room cleanliness.
- Community Engagement: Represent the organization professionally at Ward 8 community meetings, events, and ongoing staff training sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Education: A degree at the Associate's or Bachelor’s level is preferred, specifically in Early Childhood Education.
- Experience: Strong background working alongside culturally and economically diverse families and communities.
- Local Expertise: Deep familiarity with Washington, DC, specifically Ward 8 neighborhoods, local schools, and community networks.
- Key Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; strong organizational habits, workplace reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
