Minnesota Environmental Justice Manager, Full Time Exempt (Remote)

    Reports to: Midwest Program Director

Location: Minnesota. Relocation funds available for those willing to move. Candidates with

specific knowledge and experience in MN are encouraged to apply.

    Who We Are

CEED is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We envision a

United States where a just transition has transformed our economy and democratic

processes to benefit communities and the environment. The Midwest is leading the way

by centering community needs to drive policy and implementation decisions all the way

to the National level. Our mission is to create partnerships and coalitions that build the

power necessary to advance a just transition grounded in environmental justice, climate

justice, and energy democracy. We work to ensure those most impacted by climate

change and the fossil fuel economy can actively participate in developing, winning, and

implementing environmental policies that address community needs.

We build power by building and leading effective, well-resourced, and cross-sector

coalitions—and by supporting this work through building organizing capacity, policy and

research, and narrative change—so that communities can lead just climate solutions

that protect people and the planet. Our organizational values are: Visionary,

Compassionate, Pragmatic, Mutually Accountable, Integrity, and Invested in Community.

    Summary of Position

The Minnesota Environmental Justice Manager will help build CEED’s environmental justice

work in Minnesota while contributing to our broader Midwest Climate & Health Equity Hub.

This is a highly relational and analytical role for someone who can build trust with

community partners, understand emerging issues, investigate complex policy and

technical questions, and turn what they learn into useful strategies, resources, and action.

Approximately 60% of the role will focus on Minnesota environmental justice priorities,

beginning with data centers, while the remaining 40% will support Hub partners through

technical assistance, relationship-building, and shared learning. Across both areas of work,

the Manager will help identify connections and emerging opportunities, translate lessons

from individual organizations into resources that can benefit communities across the

Midwest, and ensure the work advances CEED’s Strategic Framework.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Minnesota Program Development and Implementation: Partner with the Midwest

Program Director to design and implement CEED’s goals and strategies in

Minnesota. Manage and engage with CEED staff, partners, and consultants to

advance programmatic goals and strategies. Help design and advance MN work in

    alignment with CEED’s Strategic Framework.

    • Team Membership and Leadership: Lead and participate in internal and coalition

teams related to MN and Midwest work. As needed, organize teams to advance

programmatic goals related to CEED’s MN and Midwest work.

    • Midwest Hub Support: Partner with Midwest Program Director to design and

deliver programming to support the goals and activities of the Midwest Hub.

    • Relationship Building and Connecting Communities: Develop authentic,

sustained relationships with environmental justice organizations, frontline

communities, Tribal Nations, labor partners, policymakers, local governments, and

other stakeholders. Build an understanding of the advocacy landscape, community

priorities, and opportunities shaping environmental justice work in Minnesota. Act as

a representative for CEED’s Minnesota work by participating in coalitions,

conferences, or movement spaces - particularly those related to Minnesota and

Midwest organizational priorities. As needed, build and run coalitions and networks

related to CEED’s MN strategic priorities.

    • Policy and Research: Partner with internal and external stakeholders in identifying

research, analysis, and policy goals to further CEED’s organizational goals in

Minnesota and the Midwest. Regularly translate complex policy and technical issues

into useful information for CEED staff, community partners, and policymakers.

    • Resource Development and Deployment: Collaborate with community partners

and CEED staff to develop and deploy resources (e.g., infographics, fact sheets,

template campaign plans) to further CEED’s programmatic goals in Minnesota and

    the Midwest.

    • Data tracking and Analysis: Track progress towards goals in programs

through tools such as CEED’s CRM. Formulate, build, and maintain a landscape

analysis and other reports of EJ in Minnesota.

    • Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Midwest

Program Director to support CEED's mission, strategic goals, and organizational

    health.

The successful candidate must have seven to ten (7 - 10) years of overall experience,

including the following skills and experiences:

    • Project Management, Organizing and/or Coalition Work: Experience successfully

designing and managing projects as part of an overarching campaign plan and/or

organizing plan. Experience in grassroots community, issue, labor organizing

programs, and/or network building and management is a plus. Skilled at developing

and managing projects as part of this body of work and using systems and tools to

effectively bring others into the work.

    • Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted, mutually

accountable relationships with community organizations, partners, and allies across

diverse identities, lived experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. Skilled at

listening, building trust, navigating differences, and developing collaborative

    relationships grounded in shared goals.

    • Leadership Development and Strategy: Experience supporting grassroots leaders

and organizations to strengthen their skills, capacity, and ability to advance shared

strategies. Able to work with partners to identify opportunities, develop strategies

and tactics, build alignment, and translate shared goals into meaningful action.

    • Collaborative and Adaptable: Creative problem solver who is able to move in

uncertain terrain. Brings a learning mindset to all work and interactions, and is

willing to adjust when something isn’t working as anticipated. Stays attuned to

emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities among partners and in the broader field,

and is able to identify where CEED’s relationships, resources, expertise, and capacity

can help address them. Able to troubleshoot challenges and turn insights into

practical solutions that are useful to communities and partners.

    • Team Work and Leadership: Ability to effectively work as part of a team of diverse

identities, lived experiences, and perspectives towards shared purpose and goals.

Experience managing a team towards shared goals and purpose. Experience leading

teams in a coalition context is a plus.

    • Skilled Communicator: A proficient communicator who is able to inspire and bring

people into a shared vision and purpose across a wide range of lived experiences.

Skillful at surfacing and navigating conflict in ways that lead to shared growth and

    finding a path forward.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following:
