    Position

    Lawyers Alliance seeks a highly organized and motivated Legal Program Assistant to support the legal team with maintaining files, updating databases, invoicing, scheduling, and formatting documents.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a college graduate to use and enhance their organizational, analytical, digital, and communication skills.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Support legal program staff (staff attorneys, senior staff attorneys and legal director) with administrative tasks, including:
      • obtain and organize necessary information and documents from nonprofit clients,
      • enter relevant information regarding organizations, legal matters, consultations and billing in our FileMaker database, spreadsheets, and online portals maintained by various funders,
      • draft and send out invoices,
      • schedule meetings for staff attorneys,
      • format powerpoint presentations,
      • support legal director in organizing and following up on job applications and scheduling interviews,
      • other administrative work as needed.
    • Duties may also include assisting legal team with:
      • conducting outreach to nonprofit organizations, including by conducting research to identify potential new clients, and emailing potential and former clients,
      • holding legal clinics, including by conducting outreach to eligible nonprofits, reviewing applications and requesting missing materials, and after the clinic following up with participants regarding next steps.

    Experience and Attributes

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
    • Good organizational, written, and oral communications skills.
    • Strong database experience; proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and ability to learn new technology quickly.
    • Interest in and enthusiasm for New York’s nonprofit sector.
    • Ability to work independently and as a supportive team member. Effective at multitasking.
    • The ideal candidate works well with varying people and constituencies, shows high attention to data and detail, and is a proactive thinker and a resourceful and personable colleague.
