The Director of Community Engagement
The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for building and sustaining meaningful relationships between Essential Access Health and the communities it serves, while ensuring community-informed perspectives are integrated across the organization’s work rather than siloed within a single department. This role serves as the organizational lead for community engagement practice, ensuring community voices authentically inform program design, service delivery, research, evaluation, and strategic decision-making.
The Director oversees Essential Access Health's Community Advisory Council and key youth-focused engagement initiatives, including Teen Source, Teen Source Tips, and the Youth Advisory Board, while supporting the organization’s broader evolution toward population-informed community engagement strategies.
KEY DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic oversight and day-to-day management of the Community Advisory Council (CAC), including member recruitment, onboarding, and retention
- Continuously identify opportunities to deepen and expand how the organization engages priority populations across its programs and initiatives
- Cultivate and maintain trust-based relationships with community members, partner organizations, and key stakeholders
- Manage the community engagement-related budgets, grants, and contracts in alignment with organizational priorities and funding requirements
- Supervise and support community engagement staff, establishing clear priorities, coordination, and opportunities for professional growth as the team structure evolves.
- Guide the continued evolution of community engagement efforts from a primarily youth-focused function toward broader, population-informed engagement strategies while maintaining continuity and support for existing programs
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.
- 5+years of experience in community engagement, community organizing, coalition building, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience managing advisory boards, councils, or governance bodies
- Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration and working across teams with different priorities
- Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-led approaches
- Exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills — including with diverse populations and senior leadership
- Experience working with communities most impacted by the issues the organization addresses
- Strong organizational skis with the capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
