Chief of Staff to the Chief Regional Officer

    National/Remote

Who We Are and What We Believe:

Founded in 1997, Bottom Line is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with a mission to partner with degree-aspiring students of color from under-resourced communities as they get into college, graduate, and go far in life. We achieve this mission by providing one-on-one guidance during the college application process through college graduation and the successful launch of their careers.

Our vision is to dramatically transform urban communities by producing thousands of new career-ready college graduates.

When you join Bottom Line, you will find a rewarding, fast-paced, results-oriented environment. We build strong relationships with our students and with each other. We take our work seriously, and we know that a focus on data and metrics is integral to our continued success. Experts in our fields, we are driven by our mission and extremely proud of the work we do.

    What You Will Do:

The Chief Regional Officer partners with Bottom Line’s Executive Directors to achieve operational excellence in our regions, in support of our strategic plan. Executive Directors serve as national leaders of the organization who are responsible for Bottom Line’s relevancy of Bottom Line’s model and performance in their region. Primarily, the CRO and EDs focus on local visions of scale and impact, execution of the program model towards KPIs, and stakeholder experience.

The Chief of Staff to the Chief Regional Officer plays a critical strategic and operational leadership role, ensuring that all Bottom Line regions are positioned for success, operate efficiently, and are aligned with the organization's strategic plan as well as its in-year "one Bottom Line" organizational initiatives. As a trusted partner and extension of the CRO, the CoS is responsible for driving cross-functional initiatives, navigating and managing the intersection of organizational rhythms, supporting regional teams and executive directors, and enabling strategic decision-making.

This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented and mission-driven leader with exceptional communication skills, operational business insight, and a deep commitment to educational equity.

    Overview of the Role

    Strategic Planning & Execution

    • Partner with the Chief Regional Officer to align regional priorities with organizational strategy and develop actionable plans.
    • Monitor and report on regional goals, KPIs, and strategic initiatives, ensuring a data-driven approach to decision making in regions.
    • Conduct data analysis and research to inform strategy and decision-making.
    • In collaboration with other organizational teams, support onboarding communications and tools for new sites, EDs, and key regional hires; liaise between the new site supports on the Impact team and the Chief Regional Officer, ensuring a strong partnership and feedback loop, as well as fill operational gaps – i.e. project managing the setup of new regional office space, etc.
    • Lead special projects that advance regional impact, growth, and operational efficiency.

    Operational Leadership

    • Oversee the office of the Chief Regional Officer’s internal operating rhythms including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), monthly forecasting, executive check-ins and Executive Director retreats.
    • Ensure seamless coordination between the CRO and EDs, enabling focus on top priorities.
    • Identify process bottlenecks and lead solutions to increase cross-regional efficiency.
    • Support the management of regional budgets and ensure adherence to fiscal guidelines.

    Cross-Functional Communications Leadership

    • Sit on the Senior Leadership team and serve as liaison between the CRO and national functional leaders (e.g., Development, Programs, Talent, Finance, etc.) to manage interdependencies and collaboration.
    • Lead the development and management of an org-wide calendar that maps programmatic and functional priorities (e.g. staff engagement survey, budgeting and forecasting, required compliance trainings, etc.).
    • Help national teams align with regional timelines and rhythms, ensuring timely and effective execution of cross-cutting priorities.
    • Lead the coordination of org-wide town halls and support the planning and execution of All Staff Convenings.
    • Serve as liaison for new sites (years 0-3) and national support, ensuring targeted and coordination of new site supports from various national teams.

    Internal Communications & Relationship Management

    • Lead internal communications efforts that align regional teams with CRO priorities and elevate the visibility of regional work across the organization.
    • Partner with the Executive Leadership team and national leaders to socialize the CRO’s priorities, build understanding of key initiatives, and enhance collaboration across departments to support regions.
    • Build systems and tools to help Executive Directors and national teams operate with shared context, timelines, and expectations.
    • Ensure internal messaging is consistent, timely, and helps staff navigate change and complexity.

    Team & Talent Enablement

    • Facilitate key team engagements such as ED team meetings, retreats, and step-backs
    • Prepare briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and other internal and external communications for the CRO.
    • Represent the CRO in meetings and engagements as needed
    • Build relationships with internal stakeholders, partners, and funders to support regional initiatives.
