    ARTISTIC DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT

    Position Summary:

    Reporting to the Associate Artistic Director, the Artistic Assistant will support the day-to-day administrative functions of the Artistic Department, including casting, producing, literary management, and education and engagement efforts. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and comfortable with frequent, high-touch email, phone, and in-person communication with various community stakeholders and artistic partners. An interest in play development and producing processes, as well as in educational and ancillary programming, is required.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a thought-partner within Mosaic’s Artistic team of five, offering insights on scripts, scouting, programming ideas, and other artistic endeavors as appropriate. Participate in biweekly department meetings, manage notetaking and distribution.
    • Provide thoughtful and efficient company management by way of booking artist travel and housing for out-of-town and visiting artists; support artists’ acclimation to DC and the Mosaic community.
    • Assist the Casting Director with planning, scheduling, and execution of both in-person and virtual auditioning processes. Monitor and maintain casting email account correspondence as appropriate.
    • Research and solicit scripts and projects of interest from agents and artists. Prepare thoughtful reading/viewing lists for the Artistic team.
    • Assist the Education and Engagement Manager in conceiving, marketing, and executing ancillary Reflection Series programming around the 25-26 Mosaic Theater Company Season, with a special focus on a year-long Reflection Series project around our spring 2025 production of Young John Lewis.
    • Maintain and update Education and Engagement databases and archives.
    • Support the planning and execution of engagement efforts around the 25-26 season productions and education projects, including the Mosaic High School
    • Playwriting Contest, expanding and deepening Mosaic's connections to local communities.
    • Assist as a Mosaic representative at events as needed, including Mosaic Intergenerational Matinees, Reflection Series Talkbacks, production events throughout the DC region, and more.
    • Offer scheduling and other administrative support across the Artistic department.

    Time and Compensation:

    This is a contract, 1099 role. The position pays $25/hour. The Artistic Assistant works about 16 hours per week, ideally Monday-Thursday afternoons, with occasional evening and weekend hours to attend artistic activities. Majority remote work with biweekly, in-person meetings and events.
