    Descripción

    The Major Gifts Officer plays a critical role in advancing Covenant House Greater Washington's mission by managing a portfolio of key donors and prospects. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this individual will lead strategic engagement through the donor lifecycle—from cultivation and solicitation to stewardship—with a particular focus on securing transformational (5+ figure) gifts and planned giving. This is an excellent opportunity for a relationship-driven, mission-aligned professional who is passionate about social change and creating brighter futures for vulnerable youth.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategy & Execution

    • Develop and execute thoughtful, individualized moves management plans to retain and upgrade donors.
    • Craft and implement engagement strategies that align with organizational goals and donor motivations.

    Donor Relations

    • Cultivate authentic and meaningful relationships with current and prospective donors.
    • Solicit major gifts (5+ figures) and planned giving commitments.
    • Stewardship
    • Deliver curated, impactful stewardship experiences that deepen donor investment and inspire increased giving.

    Performance & Data Management

    • Meet or exceed portfolio engagement and revenue goals.
    • Regularly update donor interactions and contact information in the CRM system.
    • Leverage donor data to assess and refine strategies and performance.

    Collaboration & Growth

    • Attend trainings, seminars, and conferences to continuously build fundraising skills.
    • Represent CHGW at donor meetings, events, receptions, and staff functions.
    • Collaborate across departments to strengthen development initiatives.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 5–10 years of experience in major gifts, sales, or a related relationship management role.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive storyteller with donor-centric messaging.
    • Proven success in securing high-level gifts or closing high-value sales.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with diverse constituents.
    • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite; experience with donor databases (CRM) preferred.
    • Flexible schedule including availability for evenings, weekends, and occasional overnights.
    • Ability to travel regularly throughout the DC region; valid U.S. Driver’s License preferred.

    Preferred

    • Experience in nonprofit fundraising or human services.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead donor-centered initiatives and events.
    • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
    • Creative, personable, detail-oriented, and mission-driven.
    • Experience crafting donor communications, presentations, and stewardship materials aligned with brand voice and audience.
