The Ruffian Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in North Carolina, dedicated to providing lifelong sanctuary, medical care, and nourishment for displaced, endangered, and unwanted feral and community cats. Founded in 2004, this all‑volunteer organization focuses on trapping, spaying/neutering, vaccinating, and protecting cats who have been driven from their habitats by development.
Key elements of our mission include:
Sanctuary Care
Providing a safe, permanent haven on 28 acres for feral and community cats, including a dedicated special‑needs unit for elderly cats and friendly cats awaiting adoptive homes.
Population Management
Implementing Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) practices to humanely manage community cat populations and reduce suffering.
Education & Advocacy
Raising public awareness about compassionate, effective solutions to feral cat overpopulation and related community health concerns.
Collaboration
Working with partners such as Best Friends Animal Society and other animal welfare organizations to save homeless pets and strengthen community impact.
