  • Misión

    Advocating For Others The Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman is to protect the health, safety, welfare, human and civil rights of people living in nursing homes and adult care facilities. Ombudsman help long-term residents understand and exercise their rights to good care in an environment that promotes and protects their dignity and quality of life. The Resource Center for Independent Living promotes a dynamic environment where society and the individual mutually benefit from a world with no limits. This is accomplished by promoting and achieving excellence in consumer controlled self directed services in: • Programs • Education • Advocacy • Research • Information retrieval and dissemination

    Ombudsmen Volunteers are certified by the NY State Office for the Aging. All services are confidential and free of charge.

    The Herkimer/Madison/Oneida/Otsego County Ombudsman Program is administered through the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL).

    AN OMBUDSMAN:

    * Will listen to residents' concerns, comments, and opinions.

    * Will advocate to ensure the highest quality of care for residents of long term care facilities.

    * Will mediate conflicts between residents, their families and staff in order to develop collaborative solutions, resolve problems and meet challenges.
