Founded in 2014, Antic in a Drain uses the grotesque satirical physical theatre form of bouffon to develop extreme characters and tell stories from the fringes, igniting dialogue and change within communities around ignored or taboo social issues. From 2014 to 2016, Antic developed and performed The Greatest Monkey Show On Earth, which makes the audience complicit in the objectification of animals for human entertainment and the disastrous consequences of such practices. The show toured to the Edmonton and Vancouver Fringe Festivals in Canada that same year, receiving a four-star review from Global News and the inaugural Artistic Risk Award in Vancouver. In 2016, the show was nominated for two Theatre Bay Area Awards for Makeup and Costume Design and won for Costume Design.
In 2015, Antic received an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission and a Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant to create and develop Bucko: Whaleman!, a 90 minute site specific work which hijacks the audience into a whaling voyage where they become colluders in a destructive plot to kill a record number of whales to harvest their oil for capital gain. Bucko premiered on Hyde Street Pier at San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park in 2017.
