Acerca de
danceTactics is a nationally recognized contemporary dance and interdisciplinary performance organization that creates transformative artistic experiences rooted in diversity, belonging, and our shared humanity. Founded by choreographer Keith A. Thompson in 2006, danceTactics believes dance is more than performance—it is a catalyst for dialogue, connection, healing, and social change.
Our mission is to create innovative movement-based experiences that amplify underrepresented voices, cultivate belonging, and inspire meaningful engagement through artistic excellence, education, and community collaboration. We embrace the belief that every body, every story, and every lived experience deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
At the heart of our work is a commitment to serving individuals and communities whose voices have historically been marginalized within the performing arts, including BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, older adults, people with disabilities, and others whose perspectives have too often been excluded from cultural spaces. Rather than creating work about communities, we create work with communities, inviting participants to become collaborators, storytellers, and creative partners throughout the artistic process.
danceTactics serves audiences and participants across the United States through live performances, touring productions, artist residencies, workshops, master classes, short films, lectures, community conversations, and interdisciplinary collaborations with universities, arts organizations, cultural institutions, schools, and community-based organizations. Our programs create welcoming spaces where artists and audiences engage in meaningful dialogue, explore complex social issues, and experience the power of movement as a universal language.
Artistically, danceTactics is deeply interested in movement's capacity to communicate beyond words. Our creative practice investigates how the body expresses memory, identity, emotion, resilience, and human connection through complex physical articulation, improvisation, and collaborative inquiry. We are continually inspired by the intersection of abstraction and narrative, creating performances that invite audiences to interpret, question, and discover meaning through their own experiences.
Collaboration is fundamental to everything we do. We work across artistic disciplines and build partnerships with educators, musicians, poets, visual artists, scientists, historians, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to create work that reflects multiple perspectives and expands the possibilities of contemporary performance. We believe that the strongest artistic experiences emerge when diverse voices, disciplines, and lived experiences come together in a spirit of curiosity, respect, and shared purpose.
As a cultural organization, danceTactics is committed to advancing equity and increasing access to the arts by removing barriers to participation, creating inclusive environments, and developing opportunities for artists and communities that have traditionally been underrepresented. Whether performing on national stages, leading community residencies, presenting educational programs, or creating new interdisciplinary works, we strive to foster empathy, inspire conversation, and strengthen communities through the transformative power of dance.
Ultimately, danceTactics envisions a world where movement serves as a bridge between people, cultures, and ideas—where artistic expression fosters belonging, celebrates our differences, and reminds us of our shared humanity.
