  • Misión

    The Litchfield Historical Society preserves and interprets all aspects of Litchfield County History through its museum, the Helga J. Ingraham Memorial Research Library, the Tapping Reeve House, and the Litchfield Law School, which was the first American law school. The Historical Society strives to meet this goal through its collection of fine and decorative arts, artifacts of daily life, archival and library materials. The Society fulfills its interpretive role through its exhibitions, educational programs, community services and publications and its preservation role trhough the collection, research, documentation and appropriate conservation of relevant materials.

    The Litchfield Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of all aspects of the history of Litchfield County, Connecticut, from its earliest inhabitants to the present day. The Society places special emphasis on the Town of Litchfield and on Tapping Reeve, the founder or the first American law school, with a focus on Reeve's role in the development of American legal training.
