To empower vulnerable communities through education, protection, advocacy, and sustainable development initiatives with emphasis on children.

We are a community-driven, non-profit organization founded in 2014 in Uganda dedicated to transforming and empowering marginalized children, families, and communities—particularly those affected by the incarceration of a parent—through education, health, psychosocial support, and economic empowerment initiatives.

Based in Wakiso District, Uganda, the foundation focuses on the following key areas:

Mission and Focus

• Empowering Vulnerable Children: TAL Foundation targets children and families affected by imprisonment, vulnerable children, and young mothers
• Preventing Intergenerational Crime: We work to break the cycle of vulnerability and criminality by ensuring children of incarcerated parents/caretakers receive education and support rather than falling into poverty or delinquency.
• Community-Driven Support: We function as a grassroots organization aiming to foster sustainable change within underserved Ugandan communities.

Core Programs and Services

• Education Support: TAL Foundation provides education support, including paying school fees, providing scholastic materials, and offering daily tutoring for children whose parents are in prison.
• Psychosocial Support & Family Reconnection: We facilitate counseling, life skills training, and family life education. Critically, the organization facilitates children's visits to their parents in prison to maintain family bonds when safe, and helps prepare parents for successful re-entry into society.
• Economic Empowerment: To combat the economic hardship that often follows the incarceration of a caregiver, TAL Foundation provides income-generating skills training and looking forward to providing startup kits to caregivers.
• Health and Well-being: The programs include health support to ensure children and their families can thrive.

In Uganda, more than 200,000 children are estimated to have a parent in prison at any given time, facing high levels of stigma and trauma. TAL Foundation addresses the urgent need for support, aiming to prevent these children from being victims of family breakdown. The foundation specifically works with families, including grandparents, struggling to care for children when parents are detained.
