    Descripción

Day 1 Recovery Center is a newly established 501(c)(3) nonprofit preparing to serve families affected by housing instability, substance use, trauma, justice-system involvement, and DCFS involvement. Our developing programs will help parents build stability, strengthen family relationships, and work toward reunification and long-term independence.

We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and mission-aligned Board Treasurer to provide financial oversight as Day 1 Recovery Center builds its programs, funding base, and organizational infrastructure.

This is a volunteer officer position on the Board of Directors. The Treasurer will help the board understand the organization’s financial position, establish responsible financial practices, and fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. The Treasurer provides governance and oversight but is not expected to serve as the organization’s unpaid bookkeeper or personally perform every accounting task.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Attend monthly board meetings and participate in board decisions
    • Present clear financial reports to the Board of Directors
    • Review budgets, cash-flow projections, income, expenses, and financial statements
    • Help establish financial policies, internal controls, and appropriate approval procedures
    • Chair or actively participate in the Finance Committee
    • Monitor financial risks and help ensure restricted funds are used appropriately
    • Assist the board in preparing for audits, reviews, tax filings, and required nonprofit reporting
    • Coordinate with the Founder/Executive Director, bookkeeper, accountant, or other financial professionals
    • Support responsible fundraising and long-term financial planning
    • Fulfill the legal and ethical duties of a nonprofit board member

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, nonprofit financial management, or a related field
    • Ability to interpret financial statements and explain financial information clearly
    • Knowledge of nonprofit internal controls, restricted funds, and board fiduciary responsibilities
    • Familiarity with Form 990, charitable reporting, audits, or California nonprofit compliance is highly valuable
    • CPA, accounting certification, or prior nonprofit treasurer experience is preferred but not required
    • Strong judgment, integrity, communication, and follow-through

This is an unpaid volunteer board position. The Board currently meets monthly, with committee work and financial review completed between meetings. Most responsibilities may be performed remotely, although candidates familiar with California nonprofits are strongly preferred.

Board members are expected to actively support the organization’s development, protect its mission, maintain confidentiality, disclose conflicts of interest, and participate in the board’s established give-or-get commitment.

This is an opportunity to help build the financial foundation and governance systems of a growing nonprofit before programs launch and funding expands.
