Domestic Violence Charity Volunteer Coordinator

Great teams don't happen by accident.

The Domestic Violence Charity Volunteer Coordinator is the person who makes sure every other volunteer at Operation Safe Escape has a good first day, a clear place on their team, and someone to turn to along the way. You will not be working directly with survivors in this role. You will be taking care of the people who do, and that is what keeps the whole organization running.

This role relies heavily on organization, people skills, and strong verbal and written communication. It is a natural fit for someone who likes bringing people together, remembers to follow up, and gets satisfaction from watching a nervous new volunteer turn into a confident, connected member of the team.

WHAT THE ROLE LOOKS LIKE

• Assists with volunteer recruitment, from posting and outreach through initial contact and screening handoff.
• Coordinates interviews and updates candidate status.
• Ensures each step of the interview and background check process is properly completed.
• Guides new volunteers through orientation and onboarding, making sure the process is smooth and welcoming.
• Helps each volunteer orient to the environment, their tools, and their team so they know where they fit.
• Checks in regularly, especially in the early weeks, and answers questions as they come up.
• Supports retention by staying connected with volunteers, noticing when someone is struggling or drifting, and helping them stay engaged.
• Builds team cohesion across roles and helps foster a culture where people want to stay.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to keep track of many people and moving parts at once.
• Excellent people skills and genuine enjoyment of helping others succeed.
• Clear, warm verbal and written communication.
• Experience in volunteer management, HR, onboarding, community building, team leadership, or a related area is helpful but not required.
• Reliability and consistent follow-through. New volunteers should never feel forgotten.
• Familiarity with the nonprofit world or the challenges faced by survivors of abuse, stalking, and trafficking is a plus.

DATA PROTECTION AND CLIENT PROTECTION

• Volunteers handle confidential data and must protect survivor information at all times.
• Volunteer records and any sensitive information encountered during onboarding must be handled with the strictest confidence and protected in accordance with Operation Safe Escape procedures.
• Each volunteer must pass a double background check due to the sensitive nature of the work.
• Operation Safe Escape is a non-discriminatory organization that protects survivors regardless of gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, immigration status, or any other characteristic.
