Hospice Volunteers provide compassionate, non-medical support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing quality of life, offering companionship, comfort, and practical assistance during end-of-life care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide companionship to patients through conversation, reading, music, or quiet presence
- Offer respite support to caregivers
- Assist with light household tasks such as organizing mail or tidying small areas
- Run occasional errands as approved
- Write letters or help with legacy projects
- Provide emotional support to family members
- Participate in memorial services and bereavement support activities as desired
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow hospice policies and procedures
- Document volunteer visits as required
Qualifications
- Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature
- Good listening and communication skills
- Ability to respect diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and values
- Willingness to complete required training and background screening
- Must be at least 18 years of age
