    Description

    Hospice Volunteer

    Hospice Volunteers provide compassionate, non-medical support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing quality of life, offering companionship, comfort, and practical assistance during end-of-life care.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide companionship to patients through conversation, reading, music, or quiet presence
    • Offer respite support to caregivers
    • Assist with light household tasks such as organizing mail or tidying small areas
    • Run occasional errands as approved
    • Write letters or help with legacy projects
    • Provide emotional support to family members
    • Participate in memorial services and bereavement support activities as desired
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow hospice policies and procedures
    • Document volunteer visits as required

    Qualifications

    • Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature
    • Good listening and communication skills
    • Ability to respect diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and values
    • Willingness to complete required training and background screening
    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    Training Provided

    • Hospice philosophy and goals of care
    • Communication and active listening skills
    • Boundaries and confidentiality (HIPAA)
    • End-of-life education and grief awareness

    Time Commitment

    • Flexible scheduling
    • Minimum commitment of ___ hours per month preferred
