Volunteer Facilities & Grounds Manager

The American Space Museum is seeking a dependable, hands-on volunteer to help maintain and improve our indoor and outdoor spaces. As our Volunteer Facilities & Grounds Manager, you’ll play an important role in keeping the museum safe, welcoming, attractive, and ready for visitors.

This is an ideal opportunity for a retired facilities professional, property manager, tradesperson, experienced DIYer, or practical problem-solver who enjoys taking ownership of projects and seeing the results of their work.

What You’ll Do

• Regularly inspect indoor and outdoor areas and identify maintenance needs.
• Complete routine upkeep and minor repairs within your skills and experience.
• Help maintain the appearance of public spaces, work areas, entrances, walkways, and museum grounds.
• Assist with painting, touch-ups, light carpentry, fixture replacement, and other small improvement projects.
• Support landscaping, planting, trimming, cleanup, and seasonal beautification.
• Create and maintain a practical list of repairs, supplies, and future projects.
• Help prioritize maintenance needs and communicate larger concerns to museum leadership.
• Assist with coordinating projects that require outside vendors or licensed professionals.
• Promote safe work practices and help keep tools, supplies, and maintenance areas organized.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience with facilities, property maintenance, groundskeeping, construction, the trades, or hands-on home improvement is strongly preferred.
• A dependable, organized person who can identify needs and follow projects through to completion.
• Good judgment about which tasks can be handled in-house and which require a licensed professional.
• Comfort working independently and communicating with museum staff and volunteers.
• A commitment to safety and respect for a historic, visitor-focused environment.
• An interest in museums or space history is welcome but not required.
