    POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Budgeting and Fundraising is considered a Leadership position and reports to the Chief of Staff. The Director of Budgeting & Fundraising shall act as the head of the Department of Budgeting & Fundraising, and as such, may determine certain procedures, functions, and positions within the limitations of the Bylaws. The Director plays a critical role in the financial health and strategic growth of the organization. They are responsible for assisting the Administration in the development and management of annual, quarterly, and any other applicable budgets, and ensuring that fundraising efforts consistently meet or exceed the revenue benchmarks necessary to sustain these budgets. In addition, the Director is tasked with developing and maintaining a detailed departmental budget breakdown, designing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, and managing fundraising performance with a focus on sustainable and increasing revenue growth. The Director also provides strategic input to the Administration on the delegation and allocation of funds, advocates for appropriate budget appropriations aligned with organizational priorities, and supports all other budgetary and fundraising-related initiatives necessary to advance Beyond the Ballot’s mission.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    • High School or GED equivalent; and
    • A bachelor’s Degree is highly preferred (but not required), specifically in: finance, accounting, economics, marketing, business administration, or a related discipline. Specialized work experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable as well.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • Prior work in the non-profit sector is highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and financial reporting is highly preferred.
    • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies (eg. Donor relations, grant writing, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and online fundraising platforms).
    • Experience in managing and mentoring staff, collaborating with different departments, and fostering a positive work culture.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Manage and oversee organizational funds as delegated by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with approved financial policies and goals.
    • Assist in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the organization’s annual budget in coordination with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and relevant department heads.
    • Coordinate closely and communicate regularly with the Board Treasurer and Executive Director to ensure financial transparency and collaborative oversight of organizational finances.
    • Prepare and deliver timely financial reports on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis, including reports specifically requested by the Executive Director, Board of Directors, or Board Treasurer.
    • Monitor and analyze budget trends throughout the fiscal year, providing strategic advice and actionable recommendations to the Administration and Board of Directors to ensure financial health and responsible spending.
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve robust fundraising strategies that support the organization’s financial needs, ensuring both immediate stability and long-term growth.
    • Design and lead fundraising campaigns, appeals, and donor engagement initiatives that are aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities.
    • Forge, cultivate, and sustain relationships with prospective, current, and past donors through ongoing stewardship, communication, and engagement.
    • Oversee and maintain donor database systems to ensure accurate, up-to-date, and secure tracking of donations, pledges, and fundraising activity.
    • Identify new funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and partnerships, and support the preparation of grant applications and reporting requirements as needed.
    • Help to ensure all fundraising and financial practices comply with applicable nonprofit laws, accounting standards, and ethical guidelines, working with the Board Treasurer and external accountants if necessary.
    • Utilize strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills to optimize fundraising performance, financial reporting, and budget planning.
    • Analyze financial data regularly to identify emerging trends, assess risks and opportunities, propose solutions to financial challenges, and inform strategic planning.
    • Assist the Executive Director and Administration in projecting multi-year financial plans and long-term revenue models to support the organization's vision and mission growth.

Understand how to manage stress.

    Remote Work Requirements: Regular access to a stable internet connection is required.

    Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between various in-person working environments. May require travel to multiple states.
