VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR/GUITAR INSTRUCTOR FOR YOUTH GUITAR CLASSES

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

Guitars Not Guns currently has an opening for a new director for the Sonoma County chapter and is accepting applications.

WHO WE ARE:

Guitars Not Guns is an international nonprofit (25 years strong) helping at-risk and all children find positive alternatives to drugs, violence, and addiction. We provide free guitar lessons and free instruments in a group setting—right here in Sonoma County.

YOUR ROLE:

Lead community outreach to local organizations hosting classes
Recruit and train volunteer guitar instructors (we currently have 10)
Coordinate fundraising activities (events, campaigns, etc.)
Oversee purchasing and refurbishing of guitars and accessories
Manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
Oversee student enrollment (with support from the Assistant Director, Librarian, etc.)
Lead guitar classes in collaboration with fellow volunteer instructors
Support finance management in collaboration with the Treasurer/Secretary
Mentor students and fellow Guitars Not Guns volunteers

Once your application is received, the next step in the process is that you will be contacted by a GNG volunteer for a brief discussion, and if we mutually agree to move forward, you'll be registered for a speedy background check, virtual online training, and then attend a 1-hour volunteer guitar instructors orientation session plus ongoing training meetings, in your spare time most likely in Cotati or Sonoma.

1. Community outreach: Describe your experience doing outreach to schools, nonprofits, or community organizations. What kinds of partnerships or programs have you helped set up?

2. Recruiting and training volunteers: Have you recruited or led volunteers before? If yes, briefly describe how you found, onboarded, and supported them.

3. Fundraising: What experience do you have with fundraising (events, campaigns, grants, or online giving)? Please share 1–2 examples of efforts you’ve helped organize or lead.

8. Finance support and administration: Have you worked with budgets, tracking expenses, or collaborating with a treasurer/bookkeeper? Please describe your comfort with basic financial oversight.

9. Time commitment and availability: How many hours per month can you realistically commit to this volunteer role, and for how long (e.g., at least 6–12 months)?

10. Motivation and fit: Why are you interested in serving with Guitars Not Guns, and what strengths do you feel you would bring to this Director role?
