Legacy Paws Rescue is a veteran-owned 501(c)(3) dog rescue and sanctuary in Catawba, NC, and we are looking to build a volunteer grant team from the ground up.
One of the hardest lessons I've had to learn since starting the rescue is that passion and hard work can only take you so far without the right people around you.
In the eighteen months since founding Legacy Paws, we have rescued 17 dogs with no staff, no grant program, and no formal fundraising team. Every dollar raised has come from individual supporters, community partnerships, events, and sheer determination. We have never submitted a grant application—not because we don't qualify, but because I simply don't know enough about grants to build and manage that process myself.
I'm looking for people who can help change that.
More specifically, I'm looking for both a Grant Team Leader and Grant Team Members.
Grant Team Leader
The ideal team leader has experience with grant writing, grant research, nonprofit development, fundraising strategy, project management, or volunteer leadership.
This person would help build and coordinate our grant program, including:
- Identifying realistic funding opportunities
- Building and maintaining a grant calendar
- Coordinating volunteer grant researchers and writers
- Reviewing and organizing application materials
- Helping create reusable grant narratives and organizational documents
- Ensuring opportunities move forward without requiring constant oversight from the founder
I can provide the mission, organizational information, financial documents, program details, rescue history, stories, and supporting materials. What I need is someone who understands grants and can help lead this area of the organization.
Grant Team Members
We are also looking for volunteers interested in helping with:
- Grant research
- Funding opportunity identification
- Narrative writing
- Editing and proofreading
- Data gathering and application support
Previous grant experience is helpful but not required. Reliability, communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are just as important.
What We're Building
Legacy Paws is about more than rescuing dogs.
The vision has always been bigger than the five acres we currently sit on. We are working to build a community centered around kindness, education, empathy, and the human-animal bond. The rescue is the beginning, not the end goal.
To make that vision sustainable, we need funding. To secure funding, we need systems. And to build those systems, we need people willing to help create something from the ground up.
If you're looking for a highly structured organization with every process already in place, this probably isn't the right fit.
If you're excited by the idea of helping build something meaningful from the beginning, we'd love to hear from you.
To Apply
Please email volunteers@legacypawsrescue.org with a brief introduction, any relevant experience, and tell us which role interests you: Grant Team Leader, Grant Team Member, or both.
