    Descripción

    Are you a collaborative leader who is passionate about strengthening your community and helping individuals find recovery? Step 1 Recovery Resources is seeking an engaged and mission-driven Volunteer Board Chair to lead our Board of Directors and help guide the organization's strategic vision, governance, and growth.

    This is an opportunity to use your leadership, nonprofit, business, or executive experience to make a direct impact on individuals and families affected by addiction while helping expand access to life-changing treatment.

    The Board Chair serves as the chief volunteer leader of the organization, providing strategic direction, ensuring sound governance, supporting board development, and fostering relationships with donors, community partners, and treatment providers. The Chair works closely with fellow board members to advance the organization's mission while ensuring the nonprofit remains financially sustainable and operationally effective.

    Key Responsibilities

    Board Leadership & Governance

    • Lead and facilitate Board of Directors meetings, encouraging productive discussion and informed decision-making.
    • Develop meeting agendas and ensure board members receive timely communication and materials.
    • Review board meeting minutes and oversee follow-up on key action items.
    • Maintain and periodically review the organization's bylaws and governance practices.
    • Ensure annual Conflict of Interest disclosures are completed by all board members.
    • Provide leadership in recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluating board members and volunteers.
    • Foster an engaged, collaborative, and mission-focused board culture.

    Strategic Leadership

    • Guide the organization's long-term strategic planning and annual priorities.
    • Work with the board to establish measurable goals, such as increasing scholarship opportunities, strengthening community partnerships, and building sustainable funding sources.
    • Help identify organizational opportunities, risks, and initiatives that support long-term growth and impact.

    Community Relations & Fundraising

    • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate partners, community leaders, and supporters.
    • Coordinate grant writing efforts and help identify new funding opportunities.
    • Maintain donor stewardship by ensuring donor records are current and sending acknowledgments and thank-you communications.
    • Represent Step 1 Recovery Resources within the Charleston community and strengthen relationships with treatment facilities and referral partners.
    • Serve on the Network & Facility Committee by visiting prospective treatment providers and referral agencies and presenting recommendations to the Board.

    Financial & Organizational Oversight

    • Collaborate with the Treasurer and Board to review annual budgets and financial plans.
    • Review and sign annual tax filings and other required organizational documents.
    • Ensure required nonprofit registrations, business licenses, and governance documents remain current and compliant.

    Approximately once every six weeks, oversee the complete client placement process, including:

      • Monitoring new inquiries
      • Conducting client interviews
      • Presenting candidates for board approval
      • Coordinating treatment placement
      • Arranging transportation when needed
      • Providing intake and waiver documentation to partner facilities
    • Interview prospective volunteers and future board members.
    • Support fundraising efforts and advocate for the organization's mission within the community.

    Time Commitment

    • Attend bi-monthly board meetings.
    • Participate in committee meetings as needed.
    • Share responsibility for weekly communications on a rotating schedule.
    • Lead the client placement process approximately once every six weeks.
    • Average commitment: 10–15 hours per week, with occasional additional time depending on organization priorities.
