About Us

Mission Statement:

Georgia Homeless Pets is a private, non-profit, all volunteer no-kill animal rescue for dogs and cats in need. Our mission is to save, care for and place animals into loving homes, promote population control through sterilization and encourage proper veterinary care, all in an effort to eliminate the euthanasia of animals in Georgia’s public shelters.

OUR MISSION

In 2008, a group of Homeless Pets Foundation volunteers formed GA Homeless Pets with the vision that one day GA Homeless Pets (GHP) would be able to house our homeless animals in a peaceful & safe sanctuary/facility suitable for long term stay. This will provide our pets with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere where they will have space to live and play until placed into foster or adoptive homes. It will also allow our volunteers to have easy and frequent access to the animals.

It is important to have a place for these animals to call home while they are given immediate medical attention, training in socialization (many of these animals have never been around other animals), training in basic commands such as sit, come, stay, potty training, or walking with a leash.

Right now our cats and dogs live in cages for extended periods where they become depressed, despondent or aggresive. The lucky ones are in one of our few foster homes where loving men and women nurse them back to good physical and mental health. They are then taken to one of our 3 adoption sites to hopefully find their forever families.

In the Atlanta area alone, there are more than 100,000 animals destroyed each year for lack of a home.
