About Us

Hearts with Haiti is a nonprofit organization invested in fostering a brighter, more sustainable future for the young people of Haiti. Each day, we see this vision fulfilled in the remarkable work of the St. Joseph Family. In 1985, Michael Geilenfeld, a former brother with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, founded a small home for five boys to bring them off the streets and offer them a family life. Today the SJF has grown to include three children’s homes that serve the most vulnerable populations (former street children, former child slaves, and children with physical and mental disabilities) as well as numerous community outreach projects including a day school for poor children, a bakery, a water project, and an art center.

Since 2001 Hearts with Haiti has provided financial assistance to the children, young adults, and outreach projects of the St. Joseph Family. Hearts with Haiti also matches the expertise of short-term volunteers with specific academic, therapeutic, medical, and artistic needs of the homes.
