CEO’s mission is to challenge corporations to meet the highest standards of honest and equitable treatment of their employees, their communities, consumers and the environment – and to ensure that these needs are not placed second to those of stockholders.
Citizens for Economic Opportunity, a project of the United Auto Workers and Connecticut Citizen Research Group, is a statewide coalition of community, labor and religious organizations working for corporate responsibility and healthcare. Top priorities include organizing to win fiscally sound economic development policies that protect low- and moderate-income workers while enhancing the community as a whole. In the past year, CEO has turned its energy into addressing issues of health care and employer responsibility. In 2004, CEO and its members lead the fight in Connecticut for a public policy that would require large profitable companies not providing affordable health coverage to their employees to do so or pay a surcharge to the state to enhance public health programs.
