About Us

Working toward the vision that all children finish third grade able to read, the Portland Reading Foundation partners with schools serving low-income students to provide a proven reading intervention program.

Components of our program: (1) Match primary grade students already falling behind grade level reading with our paid Reading Team –experienced Reading Specialists and Parent Tutors chosen from the school community, (2) provide 1:1 and 1:2 tutoring sessions three times per week during the school day for 30 weeks, (3) deliver evidenced-based, individually tailored, systematic, multi-sensory reading instruction, (4) conduct Family Literacy Night workshops to provide parents with tools to support reading at home.
