About Us

Mission

Stoneleigh Foundation exists to improve the life outcomes of vulnerable and underserved children and youth. We target young people in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems—or at risk of involvement in those systems. We meet our mission through fellowship awards that support accomplished individuals working to improve these systems through research, policy change, or practice improvement.

Goals

We work to:

  • nurture new approaches and ideas that lead to wide-spread policy and practice change
  • change how public and private systems work together to meet the needs of the whole child
  • develop new knowledge through research and its translation to policy and practice
  • support individuals and a community of fellows who can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children

Core Beliefs

To meet our mission and reach our goals, we work on the basis of several core beliefs. We believe:

  • each child in our community should live as we would want our own child to live,
  • in the power of the individuals to effect social change
  • strong children require strong families and strong communities
  • the safety and well-being of our children is a collective obligation
  • coordination is needed by all sectors—government, nonprofit, business, foundation, faith-based
