About Us

Diabetes is a quiet but deadly disease! An estimated one-third of the 26 million Americans afflicted with this disease remain undiagnosed. If untreated, diabetes can result in high blood pressure, heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, and foot and leg amputations. Minorities and immigrants, who often lack access to healthcare, are especially vulnerable to the ravages of diabetes.

HLC Inc. , a nonprofit charity, was conceived in 1993 and etablished in 2001 to fight diabetes in the Mid-Atlantic region, with an emphasis on the small communities of the Washington Metropolitan region. Working closely with individual families and diverse community organizations, the foundation exploits every opportunity to wipe out diabetes in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Specifically, we focus on three services. We conduct awareness campaigns. We offer education and training programs. We systematically fight for improved healthcare policy for disadvantaged groups at the national, state, and local levels. Additionally, we award scholarships and fellowships to eligible students majoring in studies important to diabetes research.
