About NYC Civic Corps

NYC Civic Corps, an AmeriCorps program launched in 2009 by NYC Service, recruits and places AmeriCorps members to serve full-time from September 2nd, 2024 - June 30th, 2025 at select nonprofit organizations. NYC Civic Corps members build, develop, and grow volunteer programs by recruiting, managing, and engaging volunteers to address impact areas that are priorities of New York City such as:

  • Disaster Services
  • Economic Opportunity
  • Education & Youth Development
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Public Health

  • Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, valued at $5,176.50 upon successful completion

  • Loan Forbearance and interest accrued paid on qualified student loans upon successful completion
  • On-site orientation and on-going monthly training provided by NYC Service (valued at $1,250)
  • Additional training and professional support at host site
  • NYC Civic Corps gear (polo, fleece, notebook, etc.)
  • Childcare assistance, if eligible
  • Health Coverage (no premium or monthly enrollment fees)

Responsibilities

As a NYC Civic Corps member you could be doing the following:

  • Collaborate with community partners to support various community initiatives
  • Assist in organizing and executing events to promote your host site's initiatives
  • Engage with local residents to gather feedback and input on community projects
  • Provide administrative support for volunteer program activities and initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of outreach strategies to increase community engagement
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to volunteers and volunteer programming

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
  • Have successfully obtained a High School diploma or its equivalent prior to the start of the program
  • Agree to and pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to serve full time for the program term (generally M-F 9 AM - 5 PM)
  • A strong motivation for making a positive difference in New York City
  • Willingness to learn new skills and improve upon existing ones
  • Must complete a total of 1,200 hours.
