he Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC, along with a network of 15 missions and trade offices, works to strengthen and manage the Canada-US relationship. The links between our countries are deep, diverse and complex.
For over 55 years, Canada and the United States have stood shoulder-to-shoulder defending North America through NORAD, and this continental partnership has extended to other troubled areas of the world.
Canada is the United States' largest customer. The economic prosperity of our two countries is intertwined, with two-way goods and services trade totalling US$734 billion. Nearly 9 million U.S jobs depend on trade and investment with Canada.
Key to our mutual prosperity is an efficient and secure border. Through the Beyond the Border Action Plan, the U.S. and Canada are working to address security threats together, and to expand our cooperation on trusted traveller and trader programs. We are also working to ensure our regulations enhance trade and competitiveness.
Canada is also America's largest and most secure energy supplier. Advances in production are making possible an energy independent North America.
The joint stewardship of our shared environment has been a cornerstone of our relationship for over a century. The actions we take today will ensure that our continent is safe and clean for future generations.
