About Us

The Milwaukee Public Library is a vital public resource that believes free and open information, materials, and services are essential to fostering creativity, discovery, literacy, and learning while enhancing life throughout our community. We are an anchor institution that helps build healthy families and vibrant neighborhoods - the foundation of a strong and thriving Milwaukee. At the Milwaukee Public Library, inspiration starts here - we help people read, learn, and connect.

With 13 branch locations throughout Milwaukee, we serve a population of over 595,000 individuals. We house a collection of over 2.5 million items in print, digital, and media. Each year we welcome over 2 million visitors and offer over 6,000 free programs for children, teens, and adults throughout our community.
