Description

The Choice, Inc. is facilitating an exciting search for a Paralegal professional for our client, a national public health nonprofit. This organization provides healthcare screening services, preventative education, and treatment financial assistance programs; they are consistently rated a top nonprofit to work for in the United States.


This position is a new role within the organization. It is designed to be a partner, not an assistant, to the General Counsel of the organization. We are seeking a confident, flexible, and experienced professional to be an instrumental individual for further supporting and advising staff members of the organization on matters related to health insurance, fraud, waste & abuse, corporate compliance, information privacy, and human resources.


Qualifications:

  • At least 6-7 years of professional experience. Professional knowledge and experience relevant to healthcare, and Medicare/private insurance reimbursement is particularly desired.
  • Paralegal studies/certification also highly desired but not required
  • Comfortable and confident in public speaking. Must be able to present guidelines and recommendations to C-suite staff members and organizational leaders
  • Must be based in DMV area and able to commute to North Bethesda/Rockville approximately 4 times a month.


Job Duties:

  • Performs first level contract review of vendor, partner, and other strategic agreements with the purpose of flagging legal and compliance obligations and/or concerns.
  • Performs legal research on a broad range of topics related to the organization’s programs and initiatives.
  • Assists in discovery related to litigation, investigations, informal inquiries, and other matters.
  • Manages a contracts database and internal process for the appropriate review and execution of contracts.
  • Manages a compliance program documentation database for ease of staff access.
  • Reviews master compliance program materials as needed to ensure currency and in-line with best practices and federal health care program guidance.
  • Reviews and assists in the development of policies and practices that demonstrate the organization’s commitment to compliance with OIG Advisory Opinion 97-1
  • Works collaboratively with other divisions (Offices of communications, development, business operations, government affairs and patient support and education) to direct legal and compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
  • Assists in the handling of sensitive human resources matters through record and fact gathering.
  • Assists in the performance of targeted internal programmatic audits.
  • Along with GC, promotes a culture of compliance by encouraging employees to report compliance issues, promote participation in compliance activities, create additional training opportunities, and ensure that employees questions are resolved in an efficient and thorough manner.
  • Assists in the response to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.


About the office:

The office is easily accessible by Red line Metro and also offers parking on site. The required in office expectation is up to 4 times a month. This is not a fully remote position.
