Coalition for Immigrant Freedom is seeking a full-time ESOL 

Bi-Lingual Spanish/English Education Manager– Beginning ~ 1 July 2024 ongoing 

The Coalition for Immigrant Freedom, also known as Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights (“the Coalition”), is a NYC based non-profit organization, founded in 1982 to educate, defend, and protect the rights of immigrants. The Coalition is committed to expanding access to legal immigration services, participating in policy making, and community organizing. We are seeking part time ESOL instructors. Instructors are responsible for ensuring students’ experiences are well-managed and contributing to their educational success and retention in the following ways:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Develop enriching and comprehensive course outlines and daily lesson plans appropriate to designated English Language (EL) level or follow course outlines provided by the Coalition
  • Coordinate and/or conduct student pre and post assessment exams as-needed
  • Secure space for in-person teaching
  • Teach in-person EL classes (Northern Manhattan)
  • Identify, prioritize and prepare materials needed in class 
  • Work cooperatively with Coalition staff on special workshops and student participation in special events


Administration:

  • Develop work scopes that meet grant requirements
  • Managing student data and data input into internal systems as well as grant systems (currently DYCD connect)
  • Gather and input all grant specific deliverables within the calendar dates provided 
  • Coordinating student enrollment, registration and class selection for each quarter
  • Organize education department events (ie: end of semester party; open house; etc.)
  • Collaborate on developing and implementing a marketing plan and manage outreach 
  • Represents the Coalition at community events
  • Participates in “Know Your Rights” workshops and other community outreach
  • Attend Professional Development Workshops as required by relevant grant stipulations

Additional Requirements:

  • Requires ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in educational development
  • Is able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Is committed to supporting the Coalition for Immigrant Freedoms’ mission
  • Requires effective interpersonal and oral communication skills;
  • Requires effective writing and oral communication skills to conduct classes, and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, and comprehensive;
  • Three years experience teaching ESOL or adult literacy
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Ability and willingness to work with a diverse pool of clients/students
  • Fluency in the Spanish language is a necessity
  • Certified in BestPlus 2.0 testing is a plus
