About the Role

The need for countries to urgently tackle both the use and production of fossil fuels has emerged as a key topic of global climate diplomacy in recent years, recently culminating in the COP28 call for countries to “transition away from fossil fuels”. To build on this development, Oil Change International is seeking a Senior Strategist to design and implement campaigns and advocacy strategies to secure diplomatic support for a just and equitable phase out of fossil fuel production. This will include working closely with current champion countries and first movers, as well as creating new alliances, initiatives, and campaigns to build additional political support and momentum for a global just and equitable phaseout. Close working with national civil society networks will also be key to the role. The post will have a strong focus on work with Global South countries and institutions.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to design and drive successful strategies to promote change in international climate diplomacy and a proven track record working closely with Global South governments and diplomats, as well as civil society partners. The Senior Strategist will develop and execute effective advocacy strategies at an international level in coordination with partner organizations.
