EL MONTE PROMISE FOUNDATION

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

May 6, 2024

About Us:

The El Monte Promise Foundation (EMPF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing a seamless Cradle-to-College pathway for students in El Monte, South El Monte and surrounding communities, ensuring that every child reaches their full educational potential. EMPF serves as a backbone organization partnering with those who share the same conviction that higher education has the power to change lives.

EMPF is centered in the power of education to close the achievement gaps for immigrant, low income, and students of color.   EMPF works to research and address  long-standing gaps in opportunity, achievement, and attainment that are complex and have roots inside and outside of schools. Our initiatives rely on research-driven and context-specific practices that are centered in community.

As part of our cradle-to-college pathway approach, we engage students, teachers, families, and community as valued and necessary members of college preparation and access.  We are a backbone organization that brings together local governments, school districts, community organizations, businesses, parents, and community leaders to actively coordinate systems and mobilize resources for the educational benefit of our youth. We are proud to have committed staff and board members, as well as dedicated partners who work together to make college dreams a reality for our students.

Position Overview:

EMPF is a transformation-focused community-based organization dedicated to building educational equity for students in El Monte, South El Monte, and neighboring areas.

We are seeking a proactive and visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director of EMPF. The position will require a diverse skill set to shape the Foundation’s strategic direction, engage a wide spectrum of diverse communities, and motivate policy stakeholders to partnership and action.

As the central point of communication and primary liaison, the Executive Director engages with EMPF Board of Directors, local school districts, local cities/government entities, partnering community based organizations, parents and students to facilitate EMPF's role as a backbone organization, fostering a college-going culture and driving impactful change. The position requires a commitment to diversity and educational equity to help elevate the organization, and motivate courageous and complex policy and systems change. The Executive Director shapes the strategic direction of the organization, spearheading campaigns, initiatives, and programming aimed at promoting student success and delivering high-quality educational services.

The Executive Director's election criteria will be weighed on various factors, including management judgment, willingness to learn, and the ability to engage the board in developing the vision and implementation of transformative programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations, contract management, grant management, and correspondence for El Monte Promise Foundation.
  • Responsible for managing multiple priorities, while building relationships to increase EMPF’s organizational profile and fundraising opportunities.

  • Coordinate with K-12 school districts and college partners for data assessment and collaborative impact evaluation.
  • Liaise with multiple stakeholders to coordinate region-wide college awareness activities, including workshops, conferences, forums, and summits.
  • Implement and coordinate program initiatives, such as outreach and enrollment strategies for the Roadmap to College and Scholars Savings Program.
  • Lead research and data analysis to highlight areas of focus for the EMPF and its organizational partners.
  • Share successes, lessons learned, and best practices at regional, state, and national knowledge-sharing events to increase the visibility of El Monte Promise Foundation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in developing and managing organizational budgets to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in board management, including engaging board members in strategic decision-making.
  • Track record of building consensus, setting strategic direction, and implementing program strategies that drive positive change.
