Welcome.US launched in September 2021 during a period of emergency response and innovation. Our work started with a goal of mobilizing Americans to respond to the urgent resettlement of Afghan allies, then expanded to support Ukrainians fleeing war, and now, through the Welcome Corps, helps to serve those seeking refuge from around the globe, including increasingly in our own hemisphere.

YOUR TEAM

The Content and Communications team at Welcome.US leads the public engagement, storytelling, mass communications, content development, executive communications, and digital marketing efforts of the organization. 

The role of the Communications and Content team at Welcome.US is to lead marketing, communications, and digital content strategies that encourage and mobilize more individuals and organizations to join the Welcome Corps and sponsor refugee newcomers. These efforts include supporting program announcement and tentpole moments, media engagement, digital marketing, tentpole events, mobilization campaigns , storytelling and content development. 

Through marketing, communications, and digital content, Welcome.US aims to encourage more individuals and organizations to join the Welcome Corps to support refugee newcomers, and harness the energy of Americans to continue the work of welcoming, for all populations in need of refuge. 

Graphic Designer, Contractor

Welcome.US seeks a dynamic, collaborative, entrepreneurial graphic designer to join the Content and Communications team. 

Reporting to the Executive Producer of Content and Storytelling, that graphic designer will produce visual storytelling assets that engage, inform, and inspire diverse audiences. We're looking for a talented graphic designer who can take concepts and ideas and create visual representations, in both print and electronic media. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. Collaborating with multiple teams across the organization, the graphic designer should be able to take varied concepts and translate them into deliverables that will resonate with target audiences. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of branding and marketing, and be able to find the right aesthetic, layout, and content for every deliverable.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will deliver a wide-range of projects and media, using various software programs, to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet campaign and program goals. They will have experience in engaging and soliciting input from stakeholders to ensure that designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent identified storytelling narratives. They can work independently, as well as cooperatively with the rest of the communications and marketing team to meet deadlines, stay within budget, and schedule project implementation based on workload, which may include multiple simultaneous projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple stakeholders on a wide range of materials that may include social media assets, web pages, presentations, program assets, signage, internal communications, newsletters, and marketing materials.
• Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity.
• Develop concepts and execute original content by determining the ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout.
• Manage the design and uploading process for all project materials, as well as the maintaining internal databases/archives for designs, photography, and video.

Required skills and experience

• Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills.
• Experience with designing for digital platforms, especially social media.
• 5-7 years of experience (academic and professional) with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Figma, Sketch.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in tailoring content based on audience. 
• Track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility.
• Supportive of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Desired skills and experience

• Three or more years of experience in professional graphic design, preferably with a creative or marketing agency.
• Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software.
• Experience editing video and creating digital video content.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Welcome.US is a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA). The compensation range for this position is $85/hour and requires a commitment of a minimum of 20 hours per week. This is a contract position and not eligible for benefits.
