About RTW Foundation (RTWF)

RTW Foundation (RTWF) was founded in 2018 as the philanthropic arm of RTW Investments, LP a biotech investment firm. RTWF has two major focuses: improving health equity in New York City and advancing ultrarare disease research. Our overarching goal is to improve the health of underserved communities whether that be from historically underinvested communities in New York City (including communities of color and migrant populations) to patients and families facing ultrarare diseases.

Role Description and Responsibilities

The Communications Associate will be responsible for broadly communicating the impact of the Foundation. In alignment with RTW Investments’ brand, the associate will drive the Foundation’s communications strategy to spotlight the excellent work of the Foundation and those of our partners.     

  • Lead Foundation communications strategy including idea generation, content creation, and execution of all communications products.
  • Coordinate with RTW Investments’ communications team to ensure aligned branding, content, and communications outputs.
  • Integrate the new RTW Foundation name and logo change (from RTW Charitable Foundation) in collaboration with RTW Investments communications team and RTW Foundation executive assistant.

The communications products the associate will be responsible for include, but are not limited to the following:       

  • Website – The associate will keep the Foundation website up to date, including partnerships (historical and current), events, and impact. The associate will collaborate with our broader team on video features, content ideas, etc.      
  • Annual report – The associate will manage the development of the Foundation’s annual report. This will include project management, report design, editing, and integration of input from diverse stakeholders. The associate will also be responsible for disseminating the report to a wide audience.
  • Newsletters + external engagement – The associate will be responsible for compiling and producing (1) monthly Foundation newsletters to be sent to the full Foundation network; and (2) BioQuest newsletters to be sent to the STEM mentoring program network. The associate will also be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date listserv that can be segmented to share relevant information with different audiences.
  • Social media – The associate will use LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media platforms to share Foundation impact to broader audience and to maximize exposure.
  • Press releases – The associate will write press releases and disseminate them to relevant external media outlets to share major Foundation events, announcements, and impact.

Role Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone who has experience working in non-profit communications who is passionate about RTW Foundation’s mission.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience writing press releases, newsletter content, website content.
  • Experience with graphic design and creating communications products like an annual report or similar outputs.
  • Operational and problem-solving skills, someone who is proactive, adaptive, and solution oriented. Someone who takes initiative.
  • Ability to listen well and communicate across cultures and with diverse stakeholders internally at RTWF, across RTW, and across communities in NYC.
  • Positive attitude. Flexible and adaptive to the needs and capacity of community partners and collaborators.
  • Project management skills.
  • Detail and process oriented.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in non-profit communications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.

Salary & Benefits
