  • About Us

Great Basin Outdoor School is a non-profit environmental education institution serving elementary and middle school students from northern Nevada. Our mission is to ignite children's passion for learning and foster cooperation, respect, and responsibility through hands-on discovery in the outdoor classroom. We believe that experiential education in the natural world nurtures the development of children and young adults into environmental leaders of the future. It will empower them to make positive choices in their own lives, productive contributions to their communities, and sustainable decisions for the Earth.

Our administrative headquarters is located in Reno, NV, but our residential, 2-4 day programs are based at Camp Galilee on the beautiful east shore of Lake Tahoe during the fall, winter and spring. We also run wintertime day programs at the Galena Creek Visitor Center near the summit of Mt. Rose. During these field studies, students build academic and social skills while developing their understanding of the natural world and local ecology with NV standards-based lessons. Service-learning projects and place-based education help develop a commitment to sustainability and a connection to the earth. Please visit our website for more information, and don't hesitate to get in touch!
