Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya (KSV) is a residential school, located in a beautiful forest area 18 km from Dharwad, in Karnataka State (South India). Founded in 2002, it provides education to nearly 220 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, aged between 5 and 23 years-old. The students learn academic subjects, Hindustani Classical Music, Traditional Dance, and Drama. In addition, food, accommodation, and healthcare are all provided free of cost for the families. KSV is an NGO and has no political or religious affiliations.
Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya empowers, supports and encourages children from socially marginalised and economically disadvantaged backgrounds through an intensive and comprehensive educational program of academics and performing arts in a peaceful rural residential setting.
Our vision is to break the cycle of persistent poverty by providing access to education, adequate food, healthcare facilities to all children so they can obtain qualifications in academics and music and a well-paid employment – which will have a positive impact upon them and their families.
OUR SOCIAL IMPACT
The school is located within the rural village of Kalkeri. Everyone at KSV lives in harmony with the local community, whose support over the years has been incredibly invaluable. Our Volunteers come from different countries and work alongside with our 75 local employees as Teachers, Healthcare Professionals and Wardens according to their skills. They place their competences and passion for the non-profit sector at the service of the community through our projects. As the children are exposed to Volunteers from other cultures, this also broadens their outlook on the world and boosts their self-esteem and confidence.
Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya is a registered Indian non-profit NGO (no. 121/2003-04) and is based in Kalkeri, State of Karnataka, South-West India.
