    The LEGAL REFUGEE CENTER (LRC) is a non-profit Organization approved in the

    United States of America under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code, EIN 92-

    1. It is also approved in South Africa, Tanzania and Burundi as a non-profit

    Organization. It was founded by Atibu Gaspard, a Burundian - American. He was a refugee

    in South Africa before he was resettled to America about 10 years ago. He felt haven

    experienced life as a refugee in Africa himself, things have not changed much for refugees

    and asylum seekers in Africa. He felt the need to assist, hence the Legal Refugee Center was

    established.

    The ongoing conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Soudan and other

    countries in Africa have led to a significant displacement, with many seeking refuge in

    neighboring countries. These refugees housed in urban and rural camp-based settings face

    myriad challenges that compound their vulnerability. This concept note outlines a summary

    of the activity of LRC to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and most Vulnerable Women

    and Children. Also, the mission is to mobilize the Refugees and asylum seekers who opt for

    voluntary repatriation under the United nation high commissioner for refugees (UNHCR)’s

    program. By providing targeted services in child protection, health and education to facilitate

    a smoother reintegration process for returnees.

    The organization has distributed food items, medical kits and assisted integration of returnee

    refugees back to their communities, especially Burundian refugees returning home from

    Tanzania. Legal refugee Center has also assisted refugees and Asylum seekers with issues of

    legal matters and has also held various workshops for the rights of refugees and Asylum

    Seekers in Burundi and Tanzania.

    The Organization in South Africa has organized sensitization program on refugee and asylum

    seekers rights in South Africa. And it currently runs an English class both physical and online

    to assist refugees and asylum seekers improve their proficiency in English Grammar.
