Friends of the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program
Friends of the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program (Friends of ILSP) is a nonprofit organization, working in partnership with the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program to make sure that young people leaving the foster care system have the support they need to succeed in living independently.
Friends of ILSP helps fill the gaps in funding for emancipating foster youth by providing educational scholarships, housing and basic needs grants, college field trips and other assistance to youth (ages 17-24) who are pursuing self-sufficiency.
Imagine yourself transitioning to college with no familial support. This lack of support is normal for foster youth leaving the system. We have provided things such as plane tickets for youth who had no money to get to college, removal of braces for foster youth that were no longer eligible for state-sponsored assistance, furniture for college and their kids, and many other things!
