Organization Overview:

The Peace Economy Project is committed to promoting peace and economic justice, dedicating efforts towards redirecting resources from military spending to social and environmental needs. We organize the Valentine's Day March Against Gun Violence to honor the victims of gun violence and advocate for robust gun control laws.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Media Outreach Volunteer to support our communications team in increasing awareness and participation for the Valentine's Day March Against Gun Violence. This volunteer role is critical in spreading our message, engaging the community, and maximizing media coverage for the event.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets including newspapers, radio stations, television, and online platforms.
  • Craft and distribute press releases, media alerts, and other communications materials to promote the event.
  • Coordinate interviews and media appearances for organization spokespeople.
  • Monitor media coverage and compile reports on media outreach effectiveness.
  • Assist in managing social media accounts related to the event, ensuring consistent and engaging content.
  • Collaborate with the event planning team to align media strategies with overall event objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with media professionals.
  • Experience in public relations, media relations, or journalism preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of social media platforms and understanding of media scheduling tools.
  • Passionate about gun violence prevention and advocacy for peace and economic justice.

Time Commitment:

This is a part-time, volunteer position requiring approximately 5-10 hours per week leading up to and immediately following the event on February 14. The role may require additional availability close to the event date to manage real-time media interactions.

Location:

This position can be performed remotely, although preference will be given to candidates local to St. Louis, MO, for on-site event support.
