The Sharing Network does something about the loneliness crisis by bringing together older, homebound, lower-income residents of public housing in Brooklyn, NY through phone-based activity and conversation groups. These connections foster joy and create a sense of community.


Volunteer Role:


We are currently seeking volunteers to make calls weekly, dedicating 45-90 minutes to remind participants about their upcoming group meetings. The primary goal is to combat loneliness and isolation among older residents in public housing in Brooklyn, with a focus on Black women. Volunteers have the opportunity to engage in an ongoing, helpful, and convivial manner with program participants. Look forward to maintaining contact with friendly elders.


Requirements:


  • Availability once a week between 4-7 PM ET
  • Access to a phone and a reliable internet connection
  • Strong conversational skills
  • Interest in older people
