    Description

    HERD Ventures | 5 hrs/week | Remote (VA-based preferred)

Stipend internship with mentorship, portfolio development, and potential for paid role

We’re not hiring a content machine... we’re inviting someone into a storytelling apprenticeship.

HERD Ventures is looking for a thoughtful, consistent, and creative intern to join us for a 3-month part-time role focused on social media posting and video editing. This position supports our work telling real stories from small farms, slow food, and the people restoring land and culture: all part of our Language of the Land video interview series.

This is a trial period designed for the right person to grow with us. If it’s a good fit, we’ll talk about transitioning into a paid position.

    What You'll Be Doing:

    • Watch and pull 1–2 short video clips each week from our Language of the Land YouTube series
    • Turn each clip into one clean, on-brand post with strong visuals and writing (IG)
    • Keep a simple editorial calendar to stay consistent
    • Collaborate on narrative arcs and explore ways to grow and monetize our YouTube presence
    • Stay grounded in the mission: connecting people to land, farmers, and real food

    Skills That Help:

    • Solid writer who can distill a story without watering it down
    • Basic video editing skills (CapCut, Premiere, Descript, etc.)
    • Knows their way around Instagram
    • Reliable, good communicator, and able to take initiative
    • A feel for tone and an ear for authenticity

    What You’ll Learn:

    • How to build consistent, values-driven content around storytelling
    • How to elevate local food and farming narratives through short-form video
    • What it takes to manage a story-led brand voice and build community slowly and honestly
    • Insights into video journalism, brand development, and visual storytelling from the inside
    • Real-world media mentorship working closely with Daniel (founder of HERD)

    Details:

    • 5 hrs/week for 3 months
    • Internship is unpaid, but offers structured feedback, portfolio material, and direct mentorship
    • Remote, but best suited for someone familiar with Virginia’s land and food scene
    • If the fit is strong, we’ll offer a paid role to continue and expand the work

    How to Apply

Send a brief email to herdventuresinfo@gmail.com with the subject line: HERD Internship Application – [Your Name]

    Include:

    • A few sentences on why this speaks to you
    • One video or social post you’ve created that you’re proud of (link or attachment)
    • Any portfolio links, resume, or creative work you want to share (optional but helpful)

    Benefits

    Real Mentorship

You’ll work directly with Daniel, founder of HERD Ventures: a filmmaker, food systems storyteller, and culinary anthropologist. This is an apprenticeship, not just an internship. You’ll be learning from someone who lives and breathes this work.

    Portfolio-Worthy Projects

You’ll build a body of work that actually means something. Your name will be on posts and clips that elevate farmers and food systemss, the kind of content you’ll be proud to show future employers or clients.

    Creative Ownership

You’ll have space to pitch ideas, experiment with formats, and shape the storytelling strategy. This isn’t a plug-and-play gig... we want your voice and your vision to grow here too.

Connection to Real Food & Land

This work will deepen your knowledge of small-scale agriculture, regenerative farming, and what’s actually happening on the ground in local food systems. It’s a front-row seat to food culture and climate storytelling in action.

    Potential Path to Paid Role

If we click and your work is consistent and strong, we’ll talk about transitioning into a paid, part-time content lead role with creative control and ongoing project opportunities.

    Flexibility

Set your own hours as long as the weekly post goes out on time. We care more about rhythm than clock-punching.

Learn to Tell a Story that Sticks

This isn’t about chasing likes... it’s about building slow, meaningful engagement and telling stories that help change how people see their food, their farmers, and their land.
